Until a couple days ago it was 'The Hustle' by Van McCoy and The Soul City Symphony. I thought there was no cure. It has been replaced by Wynonna Judd 'Tell Me Why'. A good record.
I reckon at least half the people who have heard the news today are joining me in a mental rendition of "Ever and ever, for ever and ever, you'll beeeeeee the one..."
After 46 years (Christ!) the contrasting idealism and cynicism of this still works for me. I particularly like this vid for the tight close ups, an unusual way to go even these days.
Blown away by this in 1963, and it's still high up on my surf/doo-wop top ten list. Something about their slightly abrasive harmonies I think. Oddly, I get a similar buzz from Laura Nyro.
The slightly off-kilter arrangement never palls either. It was Terry Melcher's first production and includes many of the Wrecking Crew, including Glen Campbell on lead guitar.
