I thought he would have been fired by now. It shouldn't be too long now, but the delay really seems to indicate that the FFF would have kept him on with a quarterfinal or semifinal exit.

btw UA, has the pink rag issued the Azzuri's biglietto yet?

Bien sur que non, mon pote.

It was all Donadoni's fault. That's their story and they are sticking to it.

More seriously linus, can you explain Escalettes' power base? How has he possibly stayed in his position (and maintained Domenech in his). Surely they both have to go, non?

Yes indeed, they have to go. I can't explain, UA, as I haven't been following french football very closely the past few years. The FFF used to be well run, the coaching choices have been very good by and large from Hidalgo on. I guess administrations like the FFF, UEFA or FIFA tend to be impervious and unaccountable.

              Ah, dommage.

That makes two of us who aren't paying as much attention as we used to. When I was reading every word of France Football, I used to know all of this stuff (and it used to be the Ligue that was the dysfunctional one).

Perhaps I will blame Canal+, they have certainly screwed enough other things up.

"Why has Domenech picked a left-back in central defence?" thought a good many viewers during France's last game vs. Italy. That's probably what Eric Abidal was thinking as he trudged from the field after his (inevitable) sending off, walking past benched specialist central defenders Squillaci and Boumsong as he made his way down the tunnel.

Plus, if Thuram decided he wasn't up to the job two games in and dropped himself, shouldn't he or somebody else have seen the warning signs before the tournament began so they could pick somebody else, like Philippe Mexes? Malouda has had a rotten season at Chelsea, yet is preferred ahead of Ben Arfa or Jeremy Menez.

What strikes me is that France get too attached to certain players and this comes back to bite them in the arse because they either can't be arsed anymore or are clearly passed it, or both.

Thuram's just failed a medical at PSG due to a heart condition, which may explain his absence form the Italy game.

Hope he's okay. One of the best defenders I've ever seen, and by all accounts a splendid human being too.

Yes I heard that as well, apparently it's the same condition that killed his brother. Thuram is a clever guy, when he hangs up his boots (which will probably be now) he'll likely get out of football and get more involved in French politics.

                        Raymond Domenech

Domenech has just been confirmed in his job through 2010 by the FFF (a vote of 18-0 with one abstention).

Even taking into account the FFF's cryptic statement about Domenech's "conditions of employment and management methods being redfined", the decision tends to defy rational analysis.

Considering that they have been together for five years and have two children, I presume the answer was yes.

Great news indeed. The FA must feel a bit stupid having fired McClaren at the first sign of failure. Or something.

At this point, I'm almost hoping that Romania and Serbia finish ahead, if that's what it will take for those 18 imbeciles to wake up. I suppose one point out of group play was good enough for them.

Their performance, not really, but their potential is indeed much better than Italy's. Herein lies the rub.

if you leave your best players at home you won't make much of that potential. fucking hell, how can they give this man two more years.

the only explanation i can think of is that the FFF are bunch of nationalistic wankers and were secretly pleased that domenech 'punished' the young non-french based players by leaving them at home.
