With Ireland having played a compromise hurling-shinty game recently against our Scottish neighbours, I'm curious as to the state of hurling's sister game. It may be mostly confined to the Highlands, just as hurling is generally played south of a line between Galway and Dublin, but do people in Glasgow, Edinburgh and the Lowlands express an interest in the game, what are the average match attendances, do competitions attract much press and TV coverage, and are there female shinty teams, just as camogie is ladies' hurling?

Shinty
Yes there is a three-tier female shinty league (website: womens-shinty.com). The Scotland international team recently played a compromise fixture against a camogie team. There's substantial interest among the highlanders in Glasgow, especially at the universities, and there are successful teams in Aberdour (Fife) and Edinburgh also.
