    The Rough Trade Story

Just thought that some might want to watch this BBC program from a couple of years ago which details the history of Rough Trade records, from its humble beginnings as a record shop to its rise and fall and rise again as an indie label.

It's on YouTube in three parts:

    Fascinating stuff.

    Thanks historyman.

On a side note, they've all got family money, haven't they? Geoff Travis: "I finished university, went to Canada to visit an ex-girlfriend and we traveled from Chicago to San Francisco, I bought loads of records from Salvation Army stores, shipped them back to the UK, started my own record store."

Daniel Miller, "I bought a synthesiser, was going to press 500 copies of T.V.O.D. but Geoff said "press 2000" so I did" (or words to that effect).

The older I get, the more I realise that it's much easier to fight against the system when you are a successful byproduct of it.
