From groundsman to test team in eight months

Australia have picked Nathan Lyon as their only spinner for the 1st test. Against Sri Lanka. Away.
That would be Nathan Lyon of 5 first-class career matches and a bowling average of over 45, then...

Lyon has just taken 4 wickets in 12 balls, and 5-34 in the innings. Sri Lanka all out for 105 in reply to Australia's 273.

From the cricinfo commentary yesterday, it sounds like a shonky pitch. Inconsistent bounce on the first day.

Clarke seems to have the pitch figured out, and AUS are very well placed at 115/6.

The Lyon story is one of those you wouldn't believe it if it was a film narratives.

Tubby would appreciate the old school opening knock of Tino Mawoyo for Zimbabwe versus Pakistan today. 81* off 263 balls, and seeming likely to bat through the first day. Zim 236-4, but the pitch seems to share few similarities to the bunsen in Galle.

Not going so well for Lyon in the second innings (though Australia are doing just fine). 0-41, and now watching as Clarke and Ponting bowl spin in tandem.

Mawoyo plods on in Bulawayo. 150* off 422 balls. Zim 375-7.

I think the film ended with his first ball in test cricket getting Sangakkara. Though I'm not sure exactly where the adversity bit is being worked in.

Mawoyo (163 not out off of 453 balls in 645 minutes) now has the highest batting average of anyone in the history of test cricket (120.5)
