A new history of the HOUSTON TEXANS

SB: 13-3 TEXANS vs 13-3 PACKERS

      TEXANS win 27-14

7-0 Minor 1 yard TD run
14-0 Minor 1 yard TD run
14-7 Marshall 25 yard fumble return
21-7 Minor 3 yard TD run
      24-7 Brown 38 yard FG
24-14 Ferguson 8 yard TD reception
      27-14 Brown 36 yard FG

The HOUSTON TEXANS triumphed over BRETT FAVRE and the PACKERS to earn their first ever LOMBARDI TROPHY in the most unlikely of ways. They lined up and rammed scatback TRAVIS MINOR down the throats of the PACKERS in an incredible display of power football.

MINOR blasted 19 times for 59 yards and 3 TDs, earning himself MVP honours and a trip to Disneyworld. Running behind a makeshift line, featuring two guys (C STEVE McKINNEY and RG ZACH WIEGERT) playing their final games for the TEXANS, MINOR displayed surprising power and elusiveness as the TEXANS frustrated the PACKERS' high-power offense by keeping the ball with grind-it-out football.

At one stage it was 21-7 with MINOR having rushed for three scores and the PACKERS' only score being a highly fortuitous fumble return (TEXANS PR MICHAEL LEWIS having coughed it up).

It was a magnificent display by the TEXANS' makeshift D, too, which well and truly put the clamps on the PACKERS and their star players. AHMAN GREEN ran 10 times for only 18 yards. BRETT FAVRE completed 17 of 36 for 198 yards and a score, but that came in garbage time. JAVON WALKER was the only bright spot with 5 catches for 84 yards.

GARY WALKER was the hero of the TEXANS D with two sacks and CHESTER McGLOCKTON added another. MORLON GREENWOOD also got a fumble recovery, while DONOVAN DARIUS was the leading tackler with 7, two for a loss.

DAVID CARR completed 18 of 26 passes for 272 yards, although he did throw one INT (AL HARRIS got him). COREY BRADFORD had his third straight strong post-season performance with 7 catches for 117 yards. JABAR GAFFNEY had 3 catches for 55 yards and PATRICK PASS broke free for a 53 yard reception.

This was a most surprising of victories from a TEXANS team featuring many transitional players, a team still under construction. FS RONNIE BRADFORD will have enjoyed the victory in his final ever game before retirement; so too will starters STEVE McKINNEY, ZACH WIEGERT, MARK WORD and DARREN HAMBRICK, all of whom will not be re-signed. We will also need to make a decision about TRAVIS MINOR.

But that can come later - for now, we can enjoy the fruits of victory!

          RETIRED:

          Ronnie Bradford
          Oronde Gadsden
          Michael Lewis
          Juran Bolden

BRADFORD really solidifed the FS position. GADSDEN was a serviceable WR#4. MICHAEL LEWIS was the KR his only season with us. BOLDEN was a useful reserve CB and special teamer.

            RE-SIGNED:

            Tony Boselli (33/7)
            Jamie Sharper (3/1)

BOSELLI gets the big long-term deal. He's been the rock of our offensive line, defying medical science in the process. SHARPER gets one more year at MLB.

A new history of the HOUSTON TEXANS

              NOT RE-SIGNED:

              Travis Minor
              Mark Word
              Eric Brown
              Steve McKinney
              Zach Wiegert
              Jonathan Wells
              Darren Hambrick
              Reggie Coleman
              Henry Burris

Shockingly the TEXANS aren't re-signing MINOR, the SUPER BOWL hero. The cruel reality is simply that there are likely to be more talented HBs out there in FA. We can always re-sign MINOR if necessary.

BROWN, McKINNEY, WIEGERT and HAMBRICK are all former starters. The rest were lowly reserves.

LT GREG RANDALL (79) - Strong enough and a good blocker
LG JUSTIN SMILEY (75) - Youngster progressing fast, very strong

LE GARY WALKER (89) - Excellent strength, a real stud DE
RE STEVE MARTIN (82) - Former DT moves to DE his final season with us
DT CORNELIUS GRIFFIN (90) - Good speed, strength and moves

17-41 Bradford 43 yard TD reception

DAVID CARR was knocked out of the game and the TEXANS crashed to a crushing defeat with DAVE RAGONE throwing 3 INTs, two of which were returned for TDs.

CARR actually enjoyed a reasonable game, completing 16 of 28 for 274 yards and 2 TDs. But when he was out, RAGONE was a complete disaster, completing 4 of 15 for for 53 yards and those 3 INTs. CARR did return to throw a late TD, but by then it was too late.

JAY FIEDLER meanwhile was MVP for completing 14 of 19 for 219 yards and 3 TDs, and RICKY WILLIAMS was an unholy terror, rushing 28 times for 146 yards. CHRIS CHAMBERS had a solid game with 4 receptions for 74 yards and a TD.

The MIAMI D finished with 3 INTs, 2 TDs and 2 sacks of the TEXANS. The TEXANS D enjoyed no such success, although DOMINIQUE STEVENSON did rack up 8 solo tackles.
