Some significant departures already to the TEXANS.

STACEY MACK, LARRY CENTERS, CHARLIE CLEMONS, RANDALL GODFREY and SETH PAYNE were all starters and MICHAEL WESTBROOK was a significant contributor.

We are determined to get younger, faster, and stronger, and the old guard will continue to be cleared out!

Thanks! The Bengals are very tempting - so are the Bills. Going to take this one through to the present-day first...

A word about the forthcoming draft. We're going to try to build with the draft, focusing on players with great fundamentals (in terms of strength, speed and skills) that we can develop over time.

A new history of the HOUSTON TEXANS

                    2004 NFL DRAFT:

                    1st Stuart Schweigert (6.5/7)
                    2nd Nick Hardwick (4.2/7)
                    3rd Justin Smiley (3.4/7)
                    4th Rob Reynolds (2.5/7)
                    5th Chris Snee (1.7.7)
                    6th Teddy Lehman (1.5/7)

SCHWEIGERT is a FS ranked 72 with great speed, 95. He might be a little bit of a reach in the first but it's rare to find safeties with that kind of speed.

HARDWICK is a C ranked 69, with great strength 96.

SMILEY is a LG ranked 67, also with great strength, 98.

REYNOLDS is a LOLB with excellent speed, 87, very raw though and ranked 62.

SNEE is also very raw, he's a RG with strength 96, but ranked only 63.

Finally the greenest of the lot is LEHMAN, ranked a mere 54, but he does have amazing strength for a MLB (89) and his speed (78) is already OK and will improve.

                          CUT:

                          Ramon Walker
                          Fred Weary

Neither have a future with the team now given our off-season acquisitions.

                            RE-NEGOTIATED:

                            Steve McKinney (3.9/1)

                            Darren Hambrick (1.5/1)

We pay a lot of money to buy some big names out of their contracts this year. It'll be the final year with the team for McKINNEY, WIEGERT, BROWN and HAMBRICK - SHARPER we'll evaluate next off-season.

24-23 Johnson 73 yard TD reception

One of the most amazing plays in NFL playoff history - right up there with the "Immaculate Reception" - saw the HOUSTON TEXANS beat NEW ENGLAND and advance to SUPER BOWL XLIII.

With 10 seconds left in the game, the TEXANS were on their own 27 yard line and down six points, 23-17. Only a TD would do. Desperate times.

CARR went back to pass and hit ANDRE JOHNSON. With the PATRIOTS in prevent it looked like they had him covered, but he busted through one, two, tackles and suddenly, magnificently, was off to the races, speeding free, all the way for the 73 yard TD and the most unlikely of victories.

                                                TEXANS 24, PATRIOTS 23.

DAVID CARR was MVP, completing 21 of 33 for 349 yards and 3 TDs. COREY BRADFORD again had a brilliant game, with 6 catches for 146 yards and 2 TDs. JOHNSON finished with 3 grabs for 95 yards and a TD. TRAVIS MINOR ran 5 times for 19 yards.

On the other side, BRADY finished 23 of 35 for 317 yards and 2 TDs. DANIEL GRAHAM was the leading receiver with 7 grabs for 100 yards, while DAVID PATTEN had 3 receptions for 96 yards and a TD. ANTOWAIN SMITH ran 12 times for 56 yards.

SAMARI ROLLE was the leading tackler for the TEXANS with 7, one for a loss. DARREN HAMBRICK added a sack.

All day long TONY BOSELLI was in a titanic duel with RICHARD SEYMOUR. SEYMOUR beat BOSELLI once for a sack early on but from then on BOSELLI owned him.
