    where's the Eurovision thread?

    ?

    Here?

    OK.

Allez France. Almost said 'Allez les bleu' but that isnt really as black and white as it should be.

Estonia to kick the shit out of Ireland. Not necessarily in competition, just as a sideline.

D'you know, I almost hope the UK win this, just to see Graham Norton try that.

Incidentally, fact fans, Graham Norton drinks vodka and red bull, after 6 pints, then moves on to Baileys and brandy.

Amazing what you remember from Substation South.

I suppose they had to plan to open with something than a straight rendition of last year's fantastic winning song, just in case Lena was drawn to be one of the first acts.

Stefan Raab is Germany's equivalent of Chris Evans and Jonathan Ross combined. He's Lena's mentor and wrote her song last year. He's also an appalling show-off, as you can see.

                      where's the Eurovision thread?

                      Starts here.

And I was wondering if the nations that don't reach the finals should get a vote, and had a look at what would have changed if they hadn't. (I was bored).

2004 (The first year of the semi-final) had the biggest change, where instead of Ukraine winning by 17 points, Serbia would have won by 15 - but that was the only time that the winners changed.

We'd have had more nil points in the competition - which hasn't happened since our own Jemini in 2003, and will probably never happen again. Malta (2006), Spain (Las Ketchup in 2006, their 18 points all came from non-qualifiers), Ireland (Dervish in 2007), Germany (2008), the United Kingdom (2008).

But, more tellingly, had the voting system been the same format last year, as it had pre-semi-finals, then Lena would still have won, but instead of a landslide victory, seemingly decided early on, it would have been one of the most exciting finishes in history, with the winner not being decided until Denmark's 12 points were awarded, with Greece (109) and Germany (110) both hoping to overtake Romania's 118 points (Denmark gave them 8). Germany got the 12 and would have won by 4 points, not the 76 that they did win by.

David Arnold is part of the UK jury? Jedward aren't getting 12 then. Unless that Celeste woman on the jury was one half of Daphne and Celeste.

I've figured out who he reminds me of - it's George Michael Bluth off of Arrested Development. This is ominous - a bit like that Norwegian, but I think it's just too weak a song and hopefully it's too early in the running order.

Here's a good game: the minute a song starts, try to remember the tune of the one that came before it.
