    Recognition

So in the last couple of weeks Brazil and Argentina have both recognised a Palestinian state as existing within the internationally recognised 1967 borders (and Uruguay have said they will too). They thus join something like 100 countries who already do (the entirety of the Arab world, various African, Asian (inc China and India), and other Latin American countries). Meanwhile a number of the great and the good from the EU have proposed somethimng similar from the EU http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/dec/10/former-eu-tougher-stance-israel

Israel and the US say, predictably, that this is "unhelpful", which they don't really elaborate on, so one can only assume that it's unhelpful in that it makes it clear that Israel needs to end the occupation.

It does seem like there really is beginning to be some genuine international pressure - particularly given the recent collapse of the Obama initiative due to Israeli intransigence. Still can't quite see how this is all going to play out, but it's looking vaguely promising.
