Indeed. GRRM stop wasting time going round the set being interviewed* & get on with ADwD. I really, really, really, really don't want him to die before he's finished the entire thing. I am selfish like that.
*although I did like hearing him say that they'd got it right I guess.

Geek-out!
I'm so much more excited about ADWD than I am with the HBO. So many unanswered questions, like:
Is the Hound dead?
What's going to happen to Cersei?
Will Highgarden march on Kings Landing?
Who the fuck is Coldhands?
And as you questioned above, Lyra: will GRRM actually survive the series?

Now I feel bad, because he says people hassle him directly about it! I naively never imagined anyone would be so rude as to do that. http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2010/feb/16/george-rr-martin-new-book

New trailer! http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/03/03/game-of-thrones-new-trailer/ I'm beyond thrilled at Aiden Gillen as Littlefinger and all the rest look great, although Dany's warrior husband looks a bit silly.
Even better news too. A PROPER DATE for ADwD. This is just the best news ever. http://www.georgerrmartin.com/if-update.html

Well fuck me sideways.
Who'd have thunk that the place I'd find out ADWD's release date would be OTF.
That is brilliant news - thanks for posting it, Lyra. I think I'll go and have a cup of tea and a nice lie-down to calm my excitement.

Here's a recent New Yorker article about Mr Martin and his fans both patient and impatient. Much as one might expect, there's lots of reasonable seeming folk (GMMR included) but also a few who really do need to get out more.

I'm in love with this programme, it makes me feel like acting again. The cast look like they're having tremendous fun playing all these foul, devious feudal types. It's so ripe as well. Beautifully structured, with Sean Bean as the honest man around whom the intrigue revolves.
I finished watching episode 4, thinking "This is great stuff, but where are the decadent homosexuals?" And then, in episode 5...

Ahhh, here's the thread. I am watching this, I missed out on Battlestar Galactica (now catching up, thankyou Sky Atlantic) so I thought I'd better see if this was any good. It is. Now all the books are in my possession as well.
Ned Stark's even become an internet meme, I see.

The premise of that article is only valid if you consider Ned Stark to be the main protagonist, I'm not familiar with the source material but I never have. The Tony Soprano comparison certainly holds no water at all, on any level. I don't think there is a single dominant character and, if one should emerge, I'm guessing she'll be female. I think the writer of that piece has confused Sean Bean's status as a name actor with the character's role in the story.
(cf: also Donald Sutherland in Pillars of the Earth.)

I suspect it's to do with George R R Martin wanting to have his books a bit of a historical feel to them - major players get offed/shuffled aside all the time in history, why should books be any different? Plus, King Joffrey needs to be shown for the petulant, arrogant little cunt he is (see also second book where he's acting more and more unpleasantly with every page).
Plus the bad guys are more fun, you need them longer, Peter Dinklage is worth the entrance fee alone, and I looove Iain Glen as Ser Jorah Mormont. Although I had to explain to my wife (who hasn't read the books) why Jon Snow getting the sword was symbolic and important - she hadn't realised Lord Mormont was Ser Jorah's father.

Which one is Ser Jonah Mormont?

I think the writer of that piece has confused Sean Bean's status as a name actor with the character's role in the story.
Plus, it's a real "now the shit is really going to hit the fan" moment in the plot that couldn't be accomplished any other way.
I'm disappointed to hear that Geoffrey survives into the second series. He may be the most hateable little shit on film since that kid who played Anakin Skywalker.
FYI, the guy who plays Drago is playing the title role in this summer's reboot of Conan the Barbarian.

Hangs out with the fit blond and the Dothraki. Driven into exile by Eddard Stark for selling poachers as slaves (to pay for his then wife's extravagant lifestyle before she upped and left him). By the standards of the nobility of the Seven Kingdoms as thus far displayed, that makes him one of the good guys, frankly.

Reading the books, I'm beginning to suspect George R R Martin has a thing for slim, small breasted women, pretty much every female character who is supposed to be sexually alluring is described as such. That and eunuchs, he seems to have an unhealthy interest in them as well.
