What was the series that had Spike Milligan blacked up as an Indian, never repeated, that I always confuse with "Love Thy Neighbour" (which was the one where the white Man U fan Labour voter and the black Tory spent half an hour each week hilariously shouting "Nig-nog" and "Big White Chief" at one another)?
You're thinking of 'Curry and Chips' - although you are better off not doing so.

Spike Milligan blacked up as an Indian
Milligan was actually Indian- he spent his childhood in Poona and then Rangoon before his family moved to England.

Comic actor Michael Bates (It ain't half hot mum)also grew up in India. He claimed this justified his role as Rangi Ram in the concert party comedy.

          True, but he wasn't black.

He was Irish though. And a product of his times.

I could be mistaken here but weren't "Love Thy Neighbour" and "Mind Your Language" written by the same person?
