Couldn't they link up with the Chris Evans show if that's what's needed? That'd free up some of the 10m annual budget, as would chopping out the +£300,000 that's paid directly to Lauren Laverne.

A Certain Ratio, Franz Ferdinand, Marcia Griffiths, The Real People, Belle and Sebastian, Shabazz Palaces, S’Express, Little Dragon, Protomartyr, Lauryn Hill, The Breeders, New York Dolls, Split Enz, Princess Nokia, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Queens of the Stone Age, Kamasi Washington, The Orielles, Massive Attack (feat. Tracey Thorn), Cracker, Songhoy Blues (feat. Iggy Pop), Morrissey, Joan As Police Woman, Ohio Players, Mount Kimbie, The Clash, Billy Bragg, Orange Juice, Nick Hakim, Four Tops.

Bit more variety than the breakfast and drive shows maybe, but some tired standards holding it together.
No Flaming Lips? No Television? Can I assume that Radcliffe had the afternoon off?

Even better, the Beeb could do something akin to what happened to BBC Three. Make 6Music an online brand - a smaller number of dedicated shows (all the specialist ones plus a few generalists) available exclusively as podcasts, produced independently (freeing up space and personnel) with occasional rebroadcasts on Radios 1 and 2, helping to introduce a broader audience to new sounds.

God, please, no. I'd rather listen to the sound of my own genitals sizzling in a frying pan...

Such as that wretched Lauryn Hill track that keeps reappearing.

Now that is the kind of boundary-pushing sonic experimentation that deserves airplay...

Aw, I like the Courtney. She does what she does and, well - if I'm reading her correctly - f*** everyone else.

Her collaborations with Kurt Vile are like a kind of stoned Moldy Peaches.

Just out of curiosity what would comprise a OTF radio station and what would the playlist comprise of from 7am - 4pm?

                      Comment

U2, Sting and Coldplay on an endless loop.

No playlist would exist. Presenters would all be John Peel, back from the dead.

Record of the week would be Jaffa Cakes Are Biscuits by The Stitched Back Foot Airmen.

Jesus wept - I know that there are far more important matters about which to get worked up, but the aforementioned already-overexposed I Feel Love has just been played on two consecutive 6Music shows (Mary Anne Hobbs and Huey Morgan), ffs.

I mean, what is the f***ing point? Okay, it was probably a genuine error (or computer glitch), but just how hard can the producer's or programmer's job be?

I had 6 on all day today, from 10 to 8pm. Lots of good stuff, especially an interview with Tricky.

When it's good, it's very good - just wish they'd update their highly-repetitious oldies policy.

No oldies today - 7am to 7pm are the best tracks of 2017. I will break my habits and even listen to daytime 6 today.

I came on to give them begrudging credit for this after all my recent complaining. The first song I heard today was an Iggy Pop / Jarvis Cocker cover of Red Right Hand which apparently was on Peaky Blinders last night, but it was before 7am so they weren't passing it off as new music.

Oh now hold on. Shaun Keaveney played it between 7am - 10am so they have indeed passed it off as new music. Not only that, they've broken the I Feel Love (Repetitive Plays) Act 2017, by playing on consecutive shows. Begrudging credit withdrawn.

Not just consecutive shows, but less than an hour apart I think.

It was indeed within an hour - I'm sure it was just a glitch, but I'd have been more forgiving had it not been a track that 6 - completely unnecessarily - play to death already.

Today's 2017 Review has been enjoyable however. One or two goodies that slipped through my usually-flawless net there.

                                                    Radcliffe and Maconie just starting.

                                                    Sweet Babboo - Pink Rainbow

Barry Adamson - I Got Clothes remixed by A Certain Ratio http://www.brooklynvegan.com/barry-a...n-ratio-remix/

Alex Lahey - 'I Love You Like A Brother'

Generally good stuff which makes the normal oldies ballast more annoying by contrast.
