The Wedding Present made an industry out of this of course, with their one-single-per-month ruse in 1992, although they undermined it a bit by releasing them as two compilation albums later on. Although it was all good fun, seeing them on TOTP every month (though sometimes just 30 seconds of a video), it was all a bit lazy and not many of the singles stand up that well on their own.
