The Morning Star
Well in the past the answer was 'Moscow Gold', of course. I used to travel a fair amount in 'the former' E. Europe, and you could get a copy in the most out-of-the way backwaters, so these bought-and-paid-for copies (you could always get the English version of the Cuban 'Granma', too) must've been a huge part of the regular income.
Nowadays the only remaining part of that funding is from British trade unions who still donate a fair amount and then, like almost every other left paper, it relies on fundraising from its readers and supporters.
I'm a big supporter oif the Newcastle 'Morning Star Bazaar', held in a church hall, for example-where else can I get old left books (and Left Books) at jumble sale prices?!
This year's Socialist Worker appeal, btw, has gone the route of amusing kitsch xmas gifts: Lenin and Trotsky in a snowglobe, anyone?
btw, TonTon, how does the Morning Star come into money? A legacy, a fundraising campaign, borrowing, more sales (which you'd expect in this political climate)?
