    The Balloon Boy

I've only just caught up on this whole story.

It sounds to me like a case of...

"Oh, maaan, I got smashed yesterday! Oh crap - which box have I put the boy in, this time?! ...AND WHERE'S MY GODDAMN BALLOON!!! ...Uh-oh!"

I heard the kid was on Larry King. How did that go:

"So you didn't die! What was that like?"

"What was it like not being in a balloon?"

Or "What's it like to be so terrified of your balloon-obssessed father that you hide in a box in the attic for a whole day?"

Soz for link in first post - it's the CNN main page, innit ? Gah !

Anyway, in an interview with the whole family the father (allegedly) asks the boy why he didn't answer when he was called, and the boy replies 'because you said it was for the show'.

Further investigation to follow I'm sure.

Perfect encapsulation of what's wrong with 24 hour cable news.

So anyway, it turned out the parents of young "Falcon" really are total douchebags.

I love it when a story reaches a just conclusion.

Seriously? 90 days in the nick for perpetrating a hoax? What a load of bollocks. Should have been a slap on the wrist for wasting police time and some community service.
The moral? Never make TV look stupid. Because TV has powerful friends. And if you make TV look stupid TV will fuck you up badstyle.

A massively expensive hoax that involved state and federal authorities, calls to 911, damage to private property and the rerouting of air traffic.

The judge hoped the sentence would act as a warning to others.

As soon as he's out, he will be trying to get on the telly again.

I doubt he'll learn anything from his experience in the clink.
