    Sackings, resignations and retirements

I don't think we have a thread for this? A thread for departing managers/retiring players.

There was a fair glut of players with a few years left in them who retired after 2014, I seem to recall. Lahm, Mertesacker... some others(!). Has anyone already said they're gone after this tournament?

To start us off - Russia coach Leonid Slutsky has offered his resignation following their exit in the group stages.

There tend to be fewer after a EC than a WC. For example, if this were a WC, I think Zlatan would definitely be calling it a day after, whereas with a EC he might try to cling on through the WC qualifiers (which Sweden must be in danger of not getting through)

And lo, Zlatan retires just to contradict SD.

But if Sweden are struggling in the 2018 WCQ, might someone in the Swedish FA send an SOS?

        Sung by Abba?

Suddenly, the Dutch qualification probability has increased significantly.

Dunno if you heard, Roy Hodgson's resigned (as have assistants Ray Lewington and Gary Neville).

                          Belgium have sacked Wilmots. Unsurprising.

Andriy Shevchenko has stepped up from assistant to replace Mykhaylo Fomenko as manager of Ukraine. Fomenko actually resigned shortly after Ukraine were knocked out. Shevchenko has never managed before.

Pavel Vrba quit as Czech Republic / Czechia coach and is now in Dagestan with Anzi Makhachkala.

Stanislav Sestak is the only Slovakia player definitely retiring, a decision he announced well before the Euros. He appeared for the last 25 mins or so of the Germany last 16 game, as Slovakia tried to keep the score down. Not a bad international career though ; started as a striker, was later used as a right-sided midfielder. 65 apps, 14 goals including 6 in qualification for the 2010 WC.

Much like Andre Gomes's transfer to Barcelona, I'm completely dumbfounded by this. Lopetegui is a f*cking awful manager. He was applying for the Braga job before he lucked out on this. surely there are dozens of Spanish managers better than him, even Quique is better.

Doubt anyone was betting but the odds for Roberto must have been millions to one.
