What's a follow request?

I've been sent a follow request. Is this someone requesting to follow me or someone requesting I follow them? I've never had one before.

It usually happens when someone inadvertently clicks on something in your profile.

You can "follow" other users, getting notification of their posts and things like that. Handy on a huge board, not quite seeing the point on OTF.

The Subscribe button is next to the Private Message button, so possibly a result of that.

Amusingly, I received a follow request a while ago from someone I was at loggerheads with. I think that they were trying to either track my posts, or look at old ones, in order to throw things back at me at part of their verbal offensive.

I ignored it.
