There are massive discrepancies in the methodologies for recording violent crime stats, so it doesn't exactly bode well that they cite three different sources, one of which is "Conservatives". Still, it's certainly true that violent crime is pretty high in the UK, certainly as a proportion of overall crime.

Hmmm, I presume these figures indicate reported crime. So topping such a list can mean that the country is crime-riddled, or that the victims of crime have enough confidence in the police to report crimes. I imagine that the latter is more the case in Britain and Sweden than it is in South Africa.
