Hmm. Should I just give up trying to evict my new kitchen residents then?

Amidst railing against them and murdering them in their hundreds, it is interesting to observe their instinctive behaviours. For example we had some heavy rain a couple of weeks a go, which drove our new kitchen colonies to move out from under the cupboards where they have all they need - warmth, easy access to food, shelter from me - and up into higher shelves where they attempted to create new beach heads (and where I could easily kill the little fuckers).
This despite their position under the "kitchen cupboards" actually being 8 feet above ground level, on the 1st floor. That instinct which has served them well just kicks in.

So is there a way I can get rid of them without exercising a nasty chemical arsenal which will poison my children too?
