London elections - how will you vote?

I'll keep you all up to date on my activities on the other thread, but here's the place to tell us all how you Londoners are voting next Thursday.

I have a postal vote, so I've already voted:

    Mayor:

First preference - Lindsey German, Left List

Second preference - Ken Livingstone, Labour

    Constituency:

    Kris Stewart, Left List

    London-wide:

    Left List

Well, I'll not be voting for that Kris Stewart bastard...

While we're on the subject, I see that the O'Connor chap has pulled out of the race today. Does this mean his mob are putting forward an alternative, or is there a risk of votes heading to Boris or the BNP as a result?

If you take out the anti-Scottish ranting, a lot of the stuff the ED candidate I did a hustings with was saying wouldn't be out of place in a vaguely lefty platform.

He can't actually pull out anyway, he's on the ballot, people will already have voted for him.

GO is right, that Stewart fella is a chancer, and no mistake.

Interesting, TT, I admit I never read the ED manifesto (just assumed it would annoy me intensely).

                Mayor:

First preference - Dunno yet. They're all a shower of wankers

Second preference - Ken Livingstone, Labour; least grim of two very grim candidates with a real chance

                Constituency:

                Kris Stewart, Left List

                London-wide:

Probably Green, unless Kris Stewart is at the top of the left-list's list.

I have it on good authority that Lindsey German does not wank.

Crusoe - kind of Old Labour-ish, I suppose, in about half of what they say. But all overlayed with this horrible anti-Socttish thing.

Well I will use the pencil to make a cross on the paper...

                    No not funny, I know.

                    Erm

                    Sian Berry first, then Ken

Green for the rest of it. Being as how I am not in Kris Stewart's constituency, otherwise obv I would vote for him, he sounds like a lovely fellow.

Probably what Lyra said, although I've not completely made my mind up yet. Ken's definitely going to get an anti-Boris vote from me anyway.

I don't know how many people watched QT, but for me it ought to be a real turning point. Boris Johnson on specifics was lost, Paddick was out of his depth and Livingstone was clearly miles better.

QT is what really put me off Paddick. Just seemed like he didn't have a clue once he talked about anything other than crime.

Oh, good. Nationalism and Socialism in the same platform.

Based on their party political broadcast, I'd have to say EDs are a gateway to fascism - and that's not a word I toss around lightly. They are Blair's children in that they are the consequence of his half-baked devolution-without-federalism constitutional ideas. But they expose a deep nastiness - their whole platform may seem pro-social services, but the sub-text is really: "why should other people benefit from lovely social services when I don't"? Sure it's aimed at the Scots now - but if it weren't the Scots, they'd be bitching about asylum-seekers, and if it weren't them it would be foreingers in general...I'm sure given their leaders' previous work with that batshit fathers' group ("hmm...how can we illustrate for the public the plight of non-custodial fathers?....I know! Let's have someone dress up as Batman and chain themselves to Buck House! Guy Debord would think that was aces!") that single mums would be right up there on the shit list, too.

Their advert was fundamentally all about identity - about us vs. them. It was sickening.

I'll probably vote exactly the same way as Lyra.

Rather worryingly, I still haven't received my polling card and Hackney electoral services are not answering the phone.

I want to like Paddick as I generally vote Lib Dem on stuff, but he is genuinely terrible on all subjects other than policing. His "trying to be a forceful politician" schtick on QT really didn't work, either.

I would agree that Livingstone was miles better than the other two main candidates. That doesn't mean, though, that he wasn't spectacularly bad.

Having thoroughly enjoyed my manifesto booklet, I was sorry that they didn't wheel on Christian Choice (NO MOSQUES) Man and Stop Our Taxes Going to Scotland Man on QT last night.

Well, today's Standard appears to be screaming that Ken gets his funding through the Tube Unions! I mean, fuck me, a Labour polictician getting money from the unions? That'd be about as unexpected as a Conservative getting money from a plc. Whatever will they think of next?

God, if only to fuck the Evening Standard into a paroxysm of self-loathing that causes their editors to hang themselves in fury, may Livingstone win. He's got as much good publicity from them as the MDC get from Zimbawean state television.

This is my first chance to vote in anything since I rejoined the Labour party two summers ago, so my nose is going to hurt a lot, I guess. The fact that it's Ken v Boris makes that task a fair bit easier at least.

Oh, the "English Democrats" are definitely an unsavoury bunch, no doubt about that.

E10 - of course once you get inside the polling booth, no-one will know if you put Ken first or second.

Except for Them. You know how they write down the index number of your ballot paper next to your name on the list. I don't trust them at all.

Who was it who said, "if voting changed anything, they'd abolish it"?

London elections - how will you vote?

Well, after being convinced until only a few days ago that I was going to vote for BoJo (partly out of a growing disenchantment with Livingstone, partly due to Johnson's commitment to get rid of bendy buses, and partly due to just being a bit conservative in my middle age), I've now firmly changed my mind. No way am I voting for that twat now. In fact, I've turned so strongly against him that I'll probably give Livingstone my second choice (even though I prefer Paddick), just so as to maximise the chances of helping to defeat Johnson (edit: must have been subconscious slip there).

What's swung it for me is Johnson's policy on the £25 congestion charge for gas-guzzler drivers. Anybody who is soft on those c*nts must be a c*nt him/herself.

So: first choice Sian whatsername (Green)

                                                  second choice: newt-keeping egomaniac shagboy.
