    Sean Hannity's 'Tree of Liberty'

A most inspired and enlightened piece of political punditry by Fox News' Sean Hannity, whose Tree of Liberty, I feel sure, will convert you all to the cause of Right.

I got as far as industry. Somehow giving lots of money to industry is said to be anti-industrial. Presumably these industries were all doing very well before this.

How's Alan Colmes doing these days? I quite like him.

Hang on. By 'industry' the Jefferson quote means something general like effort, or diligence, or basic productivity, right? Not in the same sense as we would say 'the banking industry.'

You mean you don't have confidence that he's read all of Jefferson and not just plucked out a few quotes?

Jefferson doesn't mention the ozone layer. Environmentalism is rubbish.

Well he could read all of Jefferson but it wouldn't help him much if he didn't have a clue about 18th century connotations.

The best bit is the punchline, 'now it looks like we are headed back to where we started.' George III was a socialist?

It was also commented on by America's premier conservative pundit, Stephen Colbert.

Not to be outdone, Rush Limbaugh

As the economy performs worse than expected, the deficit for the 2010 budget year beginning in October will worsen by $87 billion to $1.3 trillion. The deterioration reflects lower tax revenues and higher costs for bank failures, unemployment benefits and food stamps. But in the Oval Office of the White House none of this is a problem. This is the objective. The objective is unemployment. The objective is more food stamp benefits. The objective is more unemployment benefits. The objective is an expanding welfare state. And the objective is to take the nation’s wealth and return to it to the nation’s quote, “rightful owners.” Think reparations. Think forced reparations here if you want to understand what actually is going on.

Melanie Phillips could have written that. Deliberately making people unemployed so you can pay them unemployment benefit and they think it's better than having a wage doesn't sound to me like a vote winner. Deficits and unemployment were of course unknown under the previous president.

IMP, I can't face any more of Hannity, so where do those apples go?

Bruno, you know the alleged quote that someone once described St Paul's Cathedral as "awful, artificial and amusing", when all those words were compliments? Sean Hannity's wrecking ball is edging its way up Ludgate Hill as we speak.

The apples fall into a box marked 'socialism'.

I first saw it on Stephen Colbert too, but thought it was funnier on its own - like anything on Fox, it hardly needs satirising.

Ah right. So not only does he not know what words meant in the eighteenth century, he doesn't know what they mean now.

I doubt Phillips would have gone as far as accusing him of deliberately engineering a depression to take money from white people and give it to black people, but maybe.

I wonder, how many times would sean Hannity have to do his spiel on british tv before he was either sectioned, or sent on permanent gardening leave?
