The start of the LA Riots. They actually began the night of the 29th, but the 30th was when the rioting went city-wide and beyond. My school was canceled, and we were told to stay inside. This video gives a good indication why:

I think that must be from the third day, possibly the second.

The liquor store at the corner of my grandmother's street in West Long Beach was set on fire, and the streets around my high school, where I wouldn't be going until two years later, were still empty and devastated.

I remember watching them on TV, and not really comprehending what I was seeing. It was surreal. I also remember the sort of tipping point--not when Reginald Denny was attacked, as shocking as that was, but when the crowd at Parker Center (LAPD headquarters) turned unruly and you could tell something was happening, you were watching it live on TV, and no one knew what it would be. I remember one TV anchor yelling at the police, who had no clue what to do.

Be sure to check out the white rastafarian in the last clip, about 1 min in.
