    Lemon, Lime and Bitters

I started drinking this at a party hosted by Trinidadians and now I can't stop drinking it. Lemonade, lime cordial and Angostura bitters. Or simply Sprite and Angostura. I'm hooked.

Anyone have any other good non-alcoholic recipes for me to try?

Orange bitters and angostura bitters mashed up with some sugar. Ice. Top up glass with bourbon. Add slice of orange.

WOM, do you mean North American lemonade or UK lemonade?

Coffy, I don't think I knew there was a difference. No one in the UK ever offered me lemonade.

Theirs is lemon soda, like 7Up or Sprite.

Ah. I think I'll try it this summer with actual lemonade, lime cordial and bitters. Right now I'm being lazy and using Sprite.

Are the bitters (as in Pink Gin) in or out?

in or out of the drink? With a Pink Gin, people who drink them usually stipulate whether they want the bitters in (left in) or out (swirled round the glass and discarded).

Ah. Angostura bitters come in a bottle, like Worcestershire or Tabasco. I shake enough into the Sprite/lemonade to turn it a darkish pink/light red colour. Half a teaspoon's worth, I'd guess.

In the 1980s I used to order a non-alcoholic cocktail called Steelworks. I don't remember what goes in there except Angostura Bitters. It was fantastic. If anyone knows the recipe, please post it.

Many years ago (when I was a student), a friend and I got through a whole bottle of Angostura bitters in about two hours because we had no other drink or money. I'm a little more sophisticated than that now, though I wouldn't rule it out if times were tough.

                              Lemon, Lime and Bitters

                              Steel works

                              2 measures passion-fruit cordial
                              Splash of Angostura bitters
                              3 measures chilled soda water
                              3 measures chilled lemonade
                              1 passion fruit

Serve in long tumbler over ice. Stir in seeds and flesh from passion fruit immediately before serving.

Passion fruit? I don't remember passion fruit in it. Sounds nice though. I'll try that one.

I've taken to putting a squirt of lime cordial into more or less everything alcoholic that I drink now.

                                    ooo you big girls blouse!

Imagine asking for that in a pub in Glasgow:

'Pint of heavy with a dash of lime please'
                                    "Fucccccccccccccckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk Off"

They would probably stick an umbrella in it (a real one), or more likely in you.

                                      I'm so southern.

For some reason (and I'm presuming that there's some sort of scientific gubbins going on here), when I added it to vodka and diet coke last night, it made the diet coke go completely flat, more or less immediately.

No idea. Something to do with the acidity of the lime?

I would hazard a guess at that, yes.

Actually, last night I was largely on the gin, which at least meant that I didn't wake up with a hangover for once this morning.

Sounds nice, WOM, but I can't help feeling it would be improved by a slug of Bombay Sapphire. I'm with the Cyclist on this, I feel.
