    Worcester, twinned with Gaza

I actually think this is brilliant

And there you are: nice Hendon Jewish boy Alan Amos was the proposer.

Mind you, he is, for other reasons, a deeply, deeply odd man, I think.

Actually, I'm assuming he's Jewish because he's called Amos and he's from Hendon. Perhaps not though.

That's only mildly ridiculous compared with the impression given here that Worcester's a lovely place.

The "speak you're branes" section beneath that story might hold the most succinct set of interchangeable, standard responses collected on the Daily Mail site yet.

This is just the sort of nonsense that councils involve themselves with, that annoys residents. Concils should go back to what they were originally instituted for; street cleaning, bins, streets and lighting.

Actually, I suspect Ronald from Merseyside's having a larf.

I've just eaten a packet of Worcester sauce crisps this minute, as it happens, and damn fine they were too.

Agreed. Having grown up there, everything apart from St Georges Lane was shit. Couldn't wait to escape.

Edit: Banks Bitter was nice as well.

                    Other Worcester attractions:

                    1 the Cathedral
                    2 the cricket ground
3 Malvern hills within walking distance
                    4 the riverside
                    5 Edward Elgar

The Malvern Hills are walking distance from Great Malvern, not Worcester.

Worcester is very like Gloucester but perhaps the latter pips it for "worst place with a cathedral".

The words "with a cathedral" are peripheral to that particular argument...

Guildford, Peterborough and Rochester all have cathedrals, so there's certainly competition. Carlisle too, which has already been mentioned.

I think Worcester is a pretty decent place to be honest. It would benefit in some respects from being a little larger but its centre is still a nice place for wandering around in and it's set within easy reach of a fantastic range of countryside. I fail to see how it is similar to Gloucester which is an altogether more down at heel and violent sort of place and as for being the worst place with a Cathedral - laughable.

Sorry I was unclear, the Countryside may be similar but the cities have a very different atmosphere.

Worcester's pretty thuggish as well, but not as bad as Gloucester.

Rochester is nice, easily the nicest town in that area.

I don't know it, to be honest; I just know the reputation of the Medway Towns for being a bit hard.

I have very happy memories of Worcester around 18/19 especially at that public, but semi private grassy bank around the back of the Cathedral. It's not where you're at, it's who you're with.

Carlisle's not all that bad. Well, bits of it are. Large bits, granted, but it's hardly Gaza-like.
