I've only just chanced across this article about the exploitation of the tar sands in Canada. (Originally published in November.) It sounds bad - really bad. $125 billion worth of investment bad.

So I thought I'd throw it open to my more learned peers. Any opinions or comments?

Isn't it very expensive to extract oil from these sands, and was only viable at the oil price of last year? Now it's cheaper, it might not go ahead, I presume.
