Iceland's new PM
I was a little surprised to find that Ms Sigurdadottir is the first openly gay PM, anywhere. I mean I know Britain hasn't had one but that's a surprising taboo that's taken this long to be broken, if so. An openly gay candidate in a British or American election? Could it happen? I'd like to think so, but certainly in the UK it's still rumoured that it's incredibly difficult for a "well-groomed" man to become a Parliamentary candidate through the local constituency vetting processes unless he has a wife and kids by his side, certainly in the Tory party at least. And in America? How would middle America take to the idea of a first, er, "lady"?
