Do I Look like an idiot, know what I mean?

...and in other news Turkeys everywhere are being urged to get out in force with a "Yes" vote on the addition of a second public festive holiday to the calendar

This was never going to get the public vote. People simply didn't believe that the council would genuinely spend the money on public transport, or that even whatever they did spend could make any appreciable difference needed, and the whole referendum had been so clearly rigged toward a presumption of an overwhelming "Yes" vote that voting "no" became almost something of a "rebel's duty" in its own right. I know people who don't even drive into Manchester who were voting "no".

The sad thing is, Manchester city centre is horribly congested with traffic, especially at rush hour, and (because) the public transport system is woefully inadequate for a modern city that around 1m people travel to work/study/shop in every day. Now there's no way forward to breaking that vicious circle.
