    It's perplexing if, like me, you don't know much about explanations for congenital disease.

    Does organic mean from within rather than from without?

    Btw, I'm surprised a mathematician isn't lapping a theory up precisely because of its neatness. Are you in the wrong line of work?

      Tubby: yeah, but it's no more perplexing.

      I was using "organic" to mean "explained wholly or mainly by physical mechanisms", as distinct from explanations that invoke, say, social or cultural conditioning.

      You're not really surprised. Biology's well messy, explanation-wise, and the fact that maths isn't doesn't change that!

        You're a polymath.

        I like subjects that are neat, except the neatness has a nasty habit of being difficult to understand. As a consequence I tend to go for anything where I can write two sides and get a B.
