So "So, starting threads with 'so', then.", then.

Nowt better to do than complain some folk!

Other than that, with the pointless and slightly crap thread title out of the way I need to think about some content.

How good is recursion then eh? You know, where would we be without it and all that..

Fella in the paper today reckons this South American tribe doesn't have recursion, and therefore Chomsky's wrong. But no-one can check whether he's right because he's the only Westerner to speak the tribe's language, and the tribe's members don't speak anyone else's.

        What's recursion?

Broadly, I'd say, "forming complicated structures by repeated nesting of simple ones".

You get it in natural language, and (big time) in maths and computer programming.

The wingco interviewed Chomsky just the other day.

I hereby declare this thread title invalid.

                  Fella?

Bloke, surely, or at least Fellow...

Too much international travel, Wyatt, far too much.

Interesting people, the Pirahã. Here's some articles from a while back about Everett's findings:

                    The Interpreter
                    Language Without Numbers

                    Fascinating stuff!

I think I'll take Kylie as an example. Try this:

I just can't get "I Just Can't Get You Out Of My Head" out of my head.

                        There.

An example of recursion: bailing out a bailout

I saw a film where they ate a cow that fell into a lake. Made quick work of it with their razor-sharp teeth. Forget sharks, these are the scary ones! Not sure I would call them 'people' though. I mean, they're not like pets that people anthromorphise.
