Children beat zoo kangaroo to death

Three children have been accused of brutally killing a kangaroo and three seagulls at a zoo in the Russian city of Rostov-on-Don.
Police detained two 12-year-old boys and a 10-year-old girl, the sister of one of the boys, after the young kangaroo was beaten to death with sticks.
They allege the boys climbed a fence into a pen where eight kangaroos lived, while the girl acted as a lookout.
Police believe they also threw stones into a seagull enclosure, killing three and severely injuring three more, The Moscow Times reported.
The regional Interior Ministry said the children had admitted to the crimes.
Police quoted a zoo official as saying he remaining seven kangaroos were in a state of "deep psychological stress".
The children will face court, charged with animal cruelty, and could face a fine of up to 80,000 rubles ($4500).
