New Favorite YouTube - Music, Film, Life

    Nothing says 80's like this.

    Except maybe this...

Or, come to thing of it, maybe this...

Well, of course. How could I fucking forget that one.

Although their video for Wishing is arguably even more "80s."

Note how they envisioned the coming of the blue-tooth ear thingy.

I think The Fixx is pretty hard to beat for 80's -ness insofar as their videos captured the essence of the medium at that time - low-budget, experimental, a bit nonsensical, silly-in-retrospect-but-fucking-cool-when-was-11.

My favorite video of the High MTV Era (which I would peg as roughly 1980-1986).

I bow to your Kung Fu. It is very strong.

Although for sheer concentrated 80s wrongness - mullets, fros, power stances, bad music, sunglasses and all around shite posturing, this is pretty hard to beat.

I think Glass Tiger is a good example of the latter MTV Period, when they started spending money on videos for no apparent reason. I mean, why is the guitar player doing his solo on top of a mountain? I guess that shot is from a helicopter. That must have cost a fucking fortune.

Glass Tiger = an early example of NPS excess. We've become more efficient at producing crap music as time has passed, and increased the variety of our crapness, too.

You will all eventually pledge allegiance to Celine Dion, Avril Lavigne or Nickelback. And then you will be putty in our hands.

How can you not mention the greatest Canadian musician of all time?

Dude, we did this on the other board. Don't go there. There are some things better left undisturbed. Corey Hart's career is one of them.

The Title of Greatest Canadian Artist clearly resides with this man.

                      Ahhh...the classics.

                      And a brilliant homage.

Edit: Shit. I see fox has started enforcing writs on YouTube.

I posted these on the other board, but these are awesome and deserve more attention.

Doesn't this belong in the spanking new "Films and TV" section?

Anyway, I wasted quite a bit of valuable work time checking out (ha ha) Chad Vader episodes, I think there are about 8 in total.

Sort of a mix between The Office and Star Wars with no effects , no acting; but somehow it tickles me in a gentle way.

Heres the link to episode 1.

Oh yeah? You ever seen Glenn Gould sing Rocket Man while being in three places at once? Huh? Huh? Thought not.

                                Gould. Amateur. Feh.

I figured this category transcends music and film and the greater cultural context so I put it here.

Shatner personally transcends all those categories. Mention of his Blessed Name alone should be considered a passe-partout to all six fora on OTF.

I don't think you can assert withh total confidence that Gould isn't singing Rocket Man in that clip.

I tought that the most '80s thing on YouTube was that old McDonald's commercial with Jason Alexander in a Miami Vice-style jacket.

Anyhow, I resurrected this thread to mention my new favorite things on YouTube: "I'm Fucking Matt Damon" (my current earworm, in fact) and "I'm Fucking Ben Affleck."
