Cheers hobbes. Although I say "unexpected", I'm actually prating around like the turd off that "Tweet tweet!" advert, revoltingly smug that everything has happened exactly as I calculated back in the spring, right down to the date, the job, the commute and the bank balance.

In the meantime, those hearing aids are making all my records sound like amazing remasters, especially when I jack the volume right up. It's like giving George Best a liver replacement, though, I should watch out.

I'd recommend that all the music hacks round here get a hearing test, if only to enjoy the Radiophonic Workshop vibe. Fascinating stuff.

No, I've not even heard of it. What is it?

When I say "jack the volume up", I mean on the stereo, by the way. I've actually only got fairly slight hearing loss, at the higher frequencies. (Family history of it, too.)

If you do take the test, don't tell the audiologist you've listened to a lot of loud music in the line of duty. Mine started enthusing about Oasis and Roger Waters, which was almost enough to convince me he was an imposter.
