Sainsbury's used to do a savoury wheel. It was fucking amazing. A circle of bread, covered in cheese, onions, and tomato. I long for the days when they stocked it.
I'm addicted to bread. Toast, mostly. With enormous amounts of butter. It's largely to blame for my pear-like physique.
I once almost applied for a job at Agriculture Canada as their official Bread Taster. Bascially, the job involved sampling breads from around the world, and from there advising Canadian farmers what kinds of cereals they would need to grow in order to export to that country, given their bread predilictions. It was genius.
Then I figured I might die of malnutrition eating only bread all the time (as I inevitably would) and didn't apply.
And watching that video, it is frankly incomprehensible how this came about. By Christ, he looks like an ugly version of me when I was about nineteen, and that's really going some.
They have this kind of buttery bread here, it looks like a cholla loaf more than anything, it's loverly. Like a croissant/brioche type taste with the lovely fibrous tear of cholla.
It's called "Tresse" which means "plait" because it looks like one, proper breakfast stuff that! Try a "delice" in a bakery if you like that kind of texture, a savoury version with butter in it.
