I was astonished by an advert for Milton Keynes on Euston's tube platform yesterday. Not because it was an advert for Milton Keynes, per se, although that was bizarre enough, but it was five people bouncing around a field on spacehoppers, demonstrating how blissfully happy they were with life in the place. "We're all delighted with life in Milton Keynes", or something, the caption said. What astonished me was that, for about the first time I can remember in any advert for anything that featured more than three people in one place, for over a decade, all five of them were white .

It did rather cry out, "We're delighted with life in Milton Keynes ... there are no darkies here!".
