    Disturbing things you have to read at work...

    I just read the following sentence in a very well-respected medical journal.

    "Data were obtained with patients in the supine and prone positions."

    This same paper uses the term "stool tagging," "laxative purgation" and "colonic insufflation."

      I've never forgotten one of the Ig Nobel prize nominated papers, which was: Termination of Intractable Hiccups with Digital Rectal Massage

        not any more, but i used to work in adult social care for manchester city council; i had to read some truly, truly grim things in the course of my day's business.

          I can understand how that might work, but I want to know how they came up with the idea...

          Reasearcher 1: Poor guy still has the hiccups.

          Reasearcher 2: What have you tried to get him to stop?

          Reasearcher 1: The usual, a spoonful of sugar, standing him on his head, scaring him, but nothing seems to work.

          Reasearcher 2: Have you tried ramming something up his ass?
