    Congestion charge for Sheffield?

    https://sheffieldnewsroom.co.uk/news...Qic0f0LvJsEh6g

    Hang on.

    It isn't, is it?

It's a diesel vehicle emission charge.

The charge will mean a single daily charge for heavily polluting buses, coaches, taxis, HGVs and light goods vehicles (LGVs) to drive through the city. Buses, coaches, taxis, HGVs and LGVs cause disproportionately more pollution and often criss-cross the city with multiple trips.

How do they propose cutting the number of criss-cross journeys made by buses given they transport people to and from the city centre?

            So, Beresford, or McLemare?

            All night.

Is a rhetorical question only rhetorical when you kil... sorry, when the tree kills, someone?

              So, why title it thus?

They are not. I think Guy is suggesting that they are being disingenuous by avoiding that term.

Because it's currently being touted as one in these parts - though the article is clear it isn't.

                    Yes, I do.

                      "tree kills".

                      How apt.

He's the Lord mayor, no? Does he have any actual power?

Milan has had a similar system for about a decade, and Frankfurt is about to introduce one. Neither of those exempt private cars, which are indeed the primary targets of the restrictions.

Is there something different about the composition of traffic in Sheffield that makes exempting private cars anything other than extreme pandering to the local electorate? And can’t they do something about the busses without the elaborate infrastructure needed for such a system.

His party has some small influence, I believe. And Magid himself seems an effective media performer.

More widely, there are signs that the old model- veteran timeserver gets mayoralty- is changing, and not just where there are 'exec' mayors in parallel, as in Sheffield. In Belfast, the disappearance of Stormont means the city mayor is more prominent (and yes I know, that's largely down to her own party's antics).

He certainly does. I reckon he's ace. Any chance of him rising to any position of influence in the national party?

With only 1 MP it's difficult for any Green Party to have influence beyond the party. Or do you mean to have influence over other party members? The Aimee Challenor case showed it can be relatively easy to reach a 'senior' position (she is 20 years old, but has since resigned and joined the LibDems).

I meant be party leader, since that seems to come up regularly and still the only person who most people know is Caroline Lucas
