Not least because McDonnell's had nothing to do with the Blairite plotters. And has said so in public - so as well as being needlessly sectarian he's simply churning out shoddy journalism.

Yeah, that's terrible stuff. No doubt the leadership ballot rules are arcane, but I'm pretty sure they don't say that all people who want one have to do so for exactly the same reasons.

Agreed, E10 - as does "E10Rifles" in the comments bit. John McDonnell rebuffs there too, with some dignity.

It does amaze me that the Guardian political journos to a man and woman ever bought into the idea that Gordon Brown was ever a man of great political integrity and socialist decency and a far cry from the foppishly ambitious Blairites. Why? Because he was Scottish and grumpy? It's like those people who remain convinced that Prescott was old Labour just because he was fat, Northern and - well, old.
