    That's just not true. If you're using a frame of reference of 50 years, then for the last 40 of them - 80% of this time period - we've been doing the exact opposite of using tax and other policies to reduce inequality. The first 10 years of this period saw Britain at its most equal (and happiest) as those years were the high water mark of efforts to redistribute that happened as a direct result of government policy and the need for the UK to let inflation pay for the war debt, which combined to reduce the wealth of the richest to the greatest extent in the history of these islands probably in the christian era.

        Front page of several of the papers today. Predictable BBC response getting a spokesperson for "independent schools" (not private, oh no, not at all) onto the radio to talk about the advantages that they bring to society etc etc, and no opposing view, natch

          Protests begun by girls and young women against rape culture at private schools in Highgate, Dulwich and elsewhere. Hundreds of incidents reported, SLTs do nothing.

          Dulwich College head teacher responds by threatening to criminalise his own students.
