    Query for the web designers

    What's a good commercial program for optimising web images, which wouldn't be too difficult for my less techie colleagues to use?

    I currently use Adobe ImageReady, which came bundled with my copy of Photoshop 8.0. I think Adobe have discontinued it and want everyone to use Fireworks.

    The program would basically need to the usual web stuff, such as:

    * Convert file formats
    * Downsample images to predefined file sizes
    * Make transparent GIFs
    * Crop images to predefined measurements and resolutions

    Serif make cheap and user-friendly, and relatively high-spec software for this sort of thing. Not sure it does absolutely everything you've demanded, but it might.

      Fireworks is well worth the cash, seriously.

      I couldn't live without it.

        Depends on the level of functionality you want but you could do all this with Photoshop even setting up batch processes so your co. workers would just have to open the image and press F12, or whatever key you'd assigned to the particular task. But it's an expensive program to buy if that's all you're going to use it for.
