          People draw a distinction?

In much of Europe yes (buses are used for local transport)

Sure...but mechanically / size-wise, still pretty much the same vehicle, no? Roughly similar in dimension?

The dedicated right of way for trams is called reserved track, I think

I would suggest that those seats are safer and more interesting on a bus that never gets above 30 mph than on a coach that spends most of its time going 70 mph.

If you're a transit nerd <looks slowly around the room at everyone....> you might enjoy this.

It's about Andy Byford, who just left the Toronto Transit Commission and is now 'saving' the NYC transit system. An interesting look at its (and his) challenges.

By an objective measure, I'm not sure how successful he was in Toronto. I'm not plugged into the KPIs so have no idea how he's judged, but I know that he was on the radio explaining himself whenever there was a big fuck up, so I'll give him props for being a visible and thoughtful face on the job.

He has been great in that way here as well.

Which marks a huge difference from his predecessors.
