In better new from Hungary, resistance is finally finding its voice. The recent "slave law' (which allows employers to basically demand their employees can do overtime) and the media takeover by FIDESz has finally got people out on the streets. The last 4 evenings there have been large groups of protesters out, despite the cold snowy weather, and now there are 12 opposition politicians camped out in the HQ of the state broadcaster asking to be able to put their demands out. Their presence is being entirely ignored by that same broadcaster which is instead doing stories about migrants (not positive ones, obviously)

O1g protest: Orbán egy geci [Orbán is a sperm]
A recent questionnaire on the Hungarian website 444.hu offered readers a series of quotes and invited them to guess if they were from Hungarian media outlets talking about migrants, or from Radio Rwanda on the eve of the country’s genocide in the 1990s. With Hungarian examples referencing “filthy rats” and “inevitable bloodshed”, it was difficult to correctly guess which quote was from which country.Use of ‘O1G’ expletive illustrates rising anger at PM’s ‘slave law’ and anti-migrant rhetoric

That's another one right out of the National Socialist playbook - do the lucky girls get a Mother's Cross of Honour medal too?

I'd love to see how they will phrase that law. The Hungarians most likely to have large families are Rroma, but I'm guessing that his aim is not to encourage that. How you define a law that encourages "ethnic Hungarians" rather than "Hungarians" to have more kids, will surely get some real international action (I say surely, but i fear I'm wrong)

Orban and his party have been suspended (but not expelled) from the EPP, the right to center-right grouping in the European Parliament whose most influential members are the German CDU and CSU.
There has been significant support for expulsion, but apparently not enough.

Brilliant (yet very sad) article on Hungary, Orban, Soros and CEU by Franklin Foer
Very well worth reading

Next door to Orban, but Süddeutsche Zeitung have conducted a comprehensive sting on Heinz-Christian Strache, the leader of Austria's Freedom Party. They convinced a young woman to pose as the niece of a Russian oligarch, promising extensive funding to influence the results of the upcoming general election last year, and in turn, he divulged his wish to muzzle the Austrian media.

This really would be better placed in the Jordan Lobsterboy Peterson thread but I don't feel like dredging it up

Apparently Abbott has gone full fash too:
Orbán’s words were backed up by one of the guests of honour at the summit, the former Australian prime minister Tony Abbott, who saluted the Hungarian leader for having “the political courage to defy political correctness”.
Abbott said dying populations, not climate change, were the biggest threat to western civilisation, and lashed out at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for recent remarks that they would not have more than two children due to the effects on the environment. “Having fewer children in western countries will hardly make the climate better when so many children are being born elsewhere,” said Abbott.

He really is a dick in every way:
A senior official from Hungary's ruling Fidesz party told POLITICO that last night Prime Minister Viktor Orbán told party members he won't nominate a female candidate — despite a request from incoming Commission President Ursula von der Leyen that each country nominate both a man and a woman.
