      According to Wiki, it was moved from Armistice Day to Sunday in 1939 so as not to interfere with war production. I don't recall it ever being observed on Armistice Day when I was at school.

        Here in Canada the minute's silence has always been 11/11/11, whatever day of the week that falls on. It's also public holiday (unless it's on weekend, like today, when the following Monday is the holiday.)

          Like an office Christmas party held in January because it was easier to make a booking, Reading FC are getting solemn on Saturday 18th.
