    The Haters' Thread

Whereas I just ignored the premise of the thread. And have thus given myself a slap on the wrist.

If we are widening the remit to things we hate, dead or not, then Monocle Magazine. I'm not bright enough to articulate why it is so wrong, but a smug Conde Nast/buy shit to fill your empty soul lifestyle mag for the ageing Creative male is just horrible. And its socio-political editorial view is as shitey Sensible as the fucking Economist. Fuck the fuck off ya horn-rimmed bastards.

Oh if we are just listing things we hate then I'm going to mention for the nth time how abominable Anna Karenina is.

Not the book. Just her. She's utterly appalling.

See, I hate him so much that I had to look up that reference.

I also really dislike Tarantino. Didn't like Pulp Fiction. And hated, hated, hated the Hateful Eight. It's just violence for its own sake. About two thirds through I just fast-forwarded to the end and lamented my waste of time.

              Kill Bill was essentially porn.

The one about Brad Pitt killing Nazis was ok, but another film about Brad Pitt killing Nazis, Fury, was even better.

No, it was anti-populist bullshit. Very apropos now.

Though the No Man's Land arc in the comics it was based on was better. Greg Rucka also wrote a ripping novelization of that storyline.

Aye, Tarantino. I see his ouvre as a radiography of his nerdy sexual kinks. He's also the favourite film maker of the kind of people who say things like 'legend' and go to Soccer AM as part of the audience.

Face like a chewn kebab too.

I'm ok with having extremely white taste.

I realized one day that if I created one of those spiderweb/network charts of all the music I like, the exact center would be Jesus & Mary Chain's "Blues From a Gun" and the likelihood that I like something could be predicted by its similarity to that. It's not even my favorite song. It just feels like the exact epitome of all my musical taste. Odd.

I’d like to nominate Mike Oldfield (technically not dead but as he lives as a recluse, by his own admission, that's good enough for me). In a recent and rare interview (to the Sunday Times, by Skype), he said that:

                                    - he lives in Nassau in the Bahamas, has not left the island for nearly 5 years (and when he did, it was only to perform at the London Olympics opening ceremony) but still voted Brexit

                                    - he would have been honoured to perform at Trump’s inauguration and was hoping Trump would win

                                    - he’s proud to have lots of fans from Russia and China, like Putin, because he loves Russia and we need the big countries to unite to rid us of terrorism

                                    - he is fiercely proud of Britain as “he remembers the Bobby with his big hat and truncheon but the Bahamas are very British so that’s fine, it's like home, The Bahamas are like the Britain of the 1950’s and 1960’s, the Britain I love, not your Britain, not the Britain of 2017”

The gushing vomit inducing fawning over La La Land has reminded me once again how much I hate Hollywood musicals. They are all just so gormless and full of perky tweeness that makes me want to retch.

Like many others, I started listening to Len as a bedsit miserabilist, but soon realised that really he was quite laconic and witty. Like a songwriting Andy Murray, maybe.

Len and Sir Iguana Popp were staying in the same LA hotel, both were hit on by the same earnest female groupie. As the two of them hid in the hotel kitchen to avoid her, the taciturn troubador said "Look, I like action as much as the next guy, but you'd have to listen to her fucking terrible songs".

I loved Woody's movies as a teenager, Love and Death a fave, but as I haven't seen it for about 25 years the humor may have dated. Here's the great man on domestic bliss:

WA: Mia and I couldn't agree about dinner. I prefer to eat out late, she likes supper at home early

Interviewer: So when did you get the time to shag her daughter?

I remember her being on shows like Have I Got News For You back in the 90s and being in the papers but that was kind of all she did, wasn't it?

I didn't hate her but I felt thinking the above paragraph kind of fitted with this thread more.
