The worst prospect isn't Trump quitting (which he will), it's that his departure gives rise to a Dolchstosslegende, a belief - indeed, an absolute conviction - that he would have fulfilled all his promises and made America great again, if he hadn't been betrayed by [the liberal media/globalist conspirators/women/Alec Baldwin ... ].

So I'm kinda hoping he doesn't go too soon. His voters (the self-deluding swing voters, not the fascists) are like friends in a terrible relationship: you can't keep telling them how bad he is for them, they've stopped listening because "you never liked him anyway". They'll need a long time yet.

I'll say three years and two months. The Republicans will want his successor to run as a Ford-like "healing" incumbent.
