More Brexity in the spiritual sense than the literal, given the musicians affected weren't European, but I seem to remember reading in about 2018 or 2019 that even at the pre-grace period expiring stage it wrought absolute havoc with the organisation of WOMAD.

The number of Britons acquiring Irish citizenship by naturalisation (for those resident here but with no Irish ancestry) has risen from 54 in 2016 to 1,191 last year.

The member of the Dail they had taking about this on Radio 5 reminded me of Dara O'Briain's summary of the three levels of permission granted by the Garda.

    1) You're grand
    2) Careful now
    3) Right, you're taking the piss!!

Pity the person who had to draft this. Lucky for them it's not signed (publicly anyway).

This adds credence to the story that they have been consulting with a former Trump administration lawyer on drafting.

As a piece of legislative language, this is, uh, something:

Section 7A(2) of the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018 (effect of law
relating to the EU withdrawal agreement) does not apply to—
    (a) any rights, powers, liabilities, obligations or restrictions from time to
time created or arising by or under excluded provision of—
    (i) the Northern Ireland Protocol, or
(ii) any other part of the EU withdrawal agreement, or
    (b) any remedies or procedures from time to time provided for by or under
    excluded provision of—
    (i) the Northern Ireland Protocol, or
(ii) any other part of the EU withdrawal agreement

The bill has been published - much legalese, but essentially allows Ministers carte blanche to override the Protocol.
