Surely it would make it more likely out of resentment over NI's special treatment?

But also practically harder to sell to soft unionists. Cos a border in the Irish Sea means there is more likely to be a hard border between indy scotland and rump racist state than when there's a backstop perma customs union for the entire UK.

Plus it's likely the fuckin Salmond case will destroy Sturgeon and a fuckin eejit like Cherry is likely to rule the SNP by spring.

The Scottish english border is either made up of river, or nationsl park, and I think has a total of 9 crossing points, most of which are basically forestry roads. Nobody lives there. You could definitely have a hard border.

It would be perfect fer Project Fear there's a hard border between Our Biggest Trading Partner but. And unlike England, project fear worked in Scotland 2014. Scotland is a very conservative risk averse place with lots of auld bastards, even if it's more left of centre than England.

The left of centreness may even be a manifestation of conservatism, in a perverse way.

The best outcome for Scotland getting the fuck out of racist dodge would be at least a customs union aligned Brexit, I just can't see folk making a leap into the unknown. They'd rather slowly wither with what they know.

Tbh Nef I'm sick to the back teeth of Scotland only being important as a leftist block to save England from itself. And what happens on the British border in Ireland is the most impt part of Brexit really. In terms of fire and shit.

Yeah, but westminster has lost its mind. At this point getting independence and rejoining the EU, is the less risky option by far.

Nef, Borders are the important part of the brexit discussion. Their sudden appearance is where the damage is going to be done. They're the thing that are causing all the problems.

The Withdrawal agreement can't change. He doesn't want a transition period after the passing of the withdrawal agreement. That's where the problem lies.

If it does, will hardly be surprising, people have been warning of this for the last year or two...

If there's a border in Ireland, it will be the Nationalists, in the Irish Sea, by the unionists.

No, it's not. It specifically says the issue is that Johnson is abandoning regulatory alignment.

It will be very hard to avoid a transitional period, especially as all these proposals are being dreamed up on the fly in the last three weeks before the deadline. Johnson would then face a GE before Britain is officially out of the EU, even if he has a guaranteed 31 Jan 2020 leaving date passed in a WA by the European and British parliaments.

In addition, all this hoop-jumping is just to fool the DUP and Tory hard Brexiters that this is not a backstop by other means, not that different from that which they could have had delivered on March 31st 2019.

oops. The Theresa May deal also essentially trapped the UK in the customs union indefinitely in order to avoid a border in the irish sea. This is even more extreme.
