Didn't Berba suggest a page or two back that there could be a united Ireland by end 2020? Czapo's backstop until 2024 looks quite modest.

It's less an irony than a deliberate untruth. May- like Johnson, Mogg and Farage- doesn't give a shit about keeping NI in the British state. The DUP and everyone else know this. The lie sustains because
a) there may not be a General Election until 2022 and the Tories need Unionist votes until then, and
b) Unionist voters are still 50% in NI, and if said GE is 3 years ahead there'll be little or no hard evidence of that 50% falling to a figure that makes Berba's worst case imminent

A United Ireland won't happen unless/ until that 50%+1 rises a lot higher- say to 60%, which is plausible but not immediate.
I thought in passing about chloro chicken while swimming the other day. Not sure it really exists though

You forget that if the UK holds a referendum, they don't have to face a backstop any more. I'm sure it would be with enormous regret that TM would hold a referendum on the back of an online poll that they themselves had rigged. We've gone a long way from "No selfish interest" to "Really would like rid, but can't say it publicly."
And then the whole mess would be our problem.

Pascal Lammy is surely right here. This bollocks ought to have been knocked on the head ages ago surely?

Chlorine chicken is very real, and lots of my countrymen eat it all the time.
PRTs are antimicrobial rinses—including chlorine dioxide, acidified sodium chlorite, trisodium phosphate, and peroxyacids, among others—that have been approved by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for use in poultry processing to reduce the amount of microbes on meat. Meat and poultry products processed with PRTs are judged safe by the United States and also by European food safety authorities. Nevertheless, the EU prohibits the use of PRTs and the importation of poultry treated with these substances. The EU generally opposes such chemical interventions and believes that stronger sanitary practices during production and processing are more appropriate for pathogen control than what it views as U.S. overreliance on PRTs.

This would be fun. They could rope in Mark Carney and all the permanent secretaries.

Plan B is basically to beg her tormentors from her own right-wing and the DUP to humiliate her further. My impression from today is that even the abolition of the fee EU citizens were supposed to pay for 'settled status' only happened because Rees-Mogg said it should.
