No mention by Laura of this being blatantly illegal. Johnson should asking for an EU extension Monday as per the Benn Act, but he apparently will keep bringing back the WA instead.

love to see Berbaslug blame Corbyn again.

Contrary to your great enthusiasm for the bold Jeremy, he's not actually the whole of the opposition you know. They're all pathetically shit on this topic. He's just the leader of the Shit opposition.

There is going to come a point where you and Johnr are going to have to look at the mess that the UK is in, and have to wonder, you know, could the Labour Party have done more. My prediction is that you're probably just going to blame the people in the black hats.

Barclay is invoking Mo Mowlam to troll Labour, the utter cunt. Things are going to get very heated with that kind of provocation; insulting the dead Labour greats by equating them with this disgusting government' aims.

I’ll blame those including you whi were so determined to attach the Labour Party that they prevented any alliance either for what had originally been envisaged as Brexit -Norway plus, or to build any serious alliances or to do anything very much your contribution appears to be writing angry anti Corbyn diatribes on a football website- and defending some of the very worst aspects of the EU.

I think that it is the angle of the cameras in the Commons, but yes, he really does.

Looks like the DUP is going to support Letwin, which should mean that everyone goes home (or to the protest) early.

Johnson will not ask for an extension. No Deal on the cards.

                        I don't think that's right.

He's said that he will not "negotiate an extension", which isn't the same thing. The government has provided undertakings to the Scottish court that he will send the required letter and I fully expect him to do so. There will likely be some shenanigans involved, but that will be enough for the EU 27 to grant an extension.

                        GE in December, I expect.

As expected Johnson has been playing. He knew the deal wouldn't pass and can step up his rhetoric. Can he be forced to ask for an extension?

First since 1923, if it happens. I wonder if Labour would vote for one if the date is too late, after students have broken up?

Labour has always tried to avoid winter elections out of concern that they are less convenient for their working and less affluent base. But they may not have much choice here given the utter paralysis of Parliament abd Corbyn's statements about supporting a GE once No Deal is off the table.

It reportedly would have to be in the first two weeks of December, if only because many polling stations are booked for the holidays.

Mogg has walked out of the chamber without taking questions. They see contempt for the institution as a positive.

Hopefully Mogg walked out so he wouldn't have to admit under questioning that Johnson will send the letter. If Johnson doesn't send the letter he won't get a WA through the House and he'd be breaking the law.

Johnson sends not one but three letters to the EU. New vote on Monday, second reading of the bill Tuesday. Court action inevitable.

Johnson's team have obviously been advised that it is legal, but I assume a court may take a different view; certainly it will be challenged*. But also, by acting against the will clearly expressed in the Benn Act and today, they've pissed off many fence-sitters who may have voted for the WA with an extension. The symbolism of 31 October was just too much of a red line for Johnson to abandon.

*As Ursus noted upthread back on October 4, there is a lot of legal opinion that the 2nd letter is "prima facie illegal". Failing to sign just seems to be to be an insult to the law on its face.
