That publicity machine been cranked up over this weekend in the Brit MSM, with much advance warning of this NDB 'campaign'.

      Thanks a bunch.

Isn't this more to do with the general downturn in car purchasing, although I am sure Brexit will have an influence on their decisions as to where the axe falls.

This is something that we're going to have to get a lot more used to with the advent of electric cars. Electric cars have very few parts compared to an ordinary car. There are a lot of people employed in making those parts, and there are a lot of people employed in assembling those parts. It's going to be interesting to see how Germany manages this shift.

Bigotry and hatred is on the increase, isn't it?

And I'll not be convinced that it isn't being driven in part by Brexit - or more specifically the Leave.EU constituency.

yeah. Although I suspect they'll manage it a lot better than we would. It's almost as if careful planning, a managerial class that doesn't try to make the quickest, short term buck at every single fucking opportunity, and a political class that actually has some idea of what they're fucking doing at least some of the time, rather than simply blagging their way through with bluff and bluster, is a better way of running a 21st century society

Oh, yes, most definitely. Also Nissan NA is heavy on cars that nobody is buying anymore and light on SUVs, crossovers and pickups. Their profits dipped 99%, which isn't a good look on anyone. My figuring was that it would be a simple pretext for shutting down a chunk of Sunderland without making it seem political. We'll see, I guess.

It would help if the Leaf had water cooled batteries to stop it throttling the current on rapid chargers and if their top level Leaf wasn't priced uncomfortably close to the Tesla Model 3 Standard Range +, which blows it out of the water in pretty much every metric.

Yeah, but you actually buy a Leaf. And Nissan have the pesky problem of being expected to make profits, rather than being built to drain cash from investors.

He said a new agreement could be struck if there was "goodwill and common sense" on both sides, resulting in "a new free trade deal that allows us to take back control of our tariffs and regulations and do things differently here we want to".
That's not how free trade deals work, FFS.

Er, you can buy a Model 3, there's people driving around in them right now (in the UK).

Although they are still subject to Tesla time for deliveries.

There is no new or revised deal.

I'm starting think he genuinely believes it's possible to renegotiate, rather than just play to his openly racist agenda to blame "forrins", and yurpeean forrins at that for the negotiated deal falling apart.

Agree, but this article doesn't surprise me, the Guardian has been spouting right-wing bullshit shrouded in reasonable sounding prose for nigh on 25 years so shouldn't come as a surprise.

the Spectator & The Telegraph are owned by the right wing tax dodging Barclay Brothers- as is Boris Johnson.

Imagine not being a 22 year old PPE graduate like most of their writers and still being that fucking dumb.

"If we do go out with a no deal, it will be absolutely catastrophic even if it is just for a few months," Helen Roberts, who is also development officer for the National Sheep Association in Wales, told Radio 4's Today programme.

She said her members will protest against a no-deal Brexit: "I think it's time to come and stand up for ourselves, and be counted."

Ugh. That article has a couple of issues with it. Firstly it represents France and Germany as the Duoumvirate that has run the EU, when it would be considerably more accurate to describe it as a triumvirate featuring the UK, who exercised their power primarily by pulling hard on the brakes, and slowing everything down, and making it worse. This is a huge part of the problem with pushing for remain. The EU wasn't imposing things on the UK. The EU hardly ever put anything forward that hadn't received the approval of the UK govt at a very early stage.

The Second thing is that European Govts have always understood, from a very early stage, that the only way to avoid No-Deal is either for the UK to pass the withdrawal agreement, and leave in good standing, or cancel brexit. The issue has never been "What is the UK govt saying now." it has always been "Have they passed the withdrawal agreement yet, or are they any closer?" The coronation of Emperor Boris the Glutton just means that we can start preparations now, without fear of being seen to precipitate no-deal.
