    More on that Brexit dividend.

    'Spoons to shut 16 pubs.

    Due to "prevailing economic circumstances".

Who knew that calling half of your customers and potential customers treacherous scumbags could affect turnover?

I played that, and the cat woke up and made indignant noises.

"Ending free movement" as the first goal she mentions (and one she claims Labour agrees with).

That's always been what Brexit has been about for her, apart from keeping together her miserable party.

Yeah I noted that. Sounds like she's laying ground for a no deal "solution."

But she also admits that Parliament rejected No Deal, so she's not going to look good if she can't avoid it due to her inflexibility.

An extension into 2020 is favourite over No Deal with the bookmakers but I still don't see how we get there based on May's statements

Because May is not in control of anything?

May supposedly visiting Berlin and Paris tomorrow to push for another extension. Not sure what she hopes to achieve if she hasn't agreed something with Corbyn.

Still not understanding that she negotiates with the EU27, and not individual leaders then.

The understandable error there is to equate anything she says with anything resembling reality

To be fair, when it comes to extension, it's individual member states. Or at least the Council by unanimous decision, which amounts to much the same thing.

Interesting that Oborne has written down his Leave doubts now. One of the more honest Tory commentators, who’s not afraid to update his opinions. Wonder if that will get repeated in his Mail column?

I'd agree - if she was going to go to the other 25. Which she isn't.

She can't visit them all in one day (at least not until the summit, which would be too late). France seems to be the most likely opposer at the moment.

I'm not saying it's going to work - like I say, without a plan to present to Macron, I don't see the point. But for once it's not unreasonable of her to focus on heads of government.

There is a weird sense of optimism from some commentators, I think they genuinely underestimate the risk that Macron will block an extension without solid evidence of a way forward...

There's a suggestion that he won't want to be the only person blocking it, but given that he hasn't gotten his way with his EU plan, I'm thinking he might just do it out of spite.

                                            Meanwhile, in Bizarro world:

So the idea is to put a meaningless offer into law. That'll do it, I'm sure.

I don't think spite would be the reason, rather a desire to push forward with his vision for the EU. I suspect he might not be as isolated as implied either...No one else but him will veto if it comes to that but there has to be some tacit support from a number of other countries.

Haha, the EU confirms there will be no trade talks after a no deal exit without an agreement in place for a backstop.

Tories better start dusting off their safety gear because they've got some serious caving ahead of them.
